, I once took a ftrlseyee class with a trainer whom I liked and who
had a lot to teach me, but who, from the outset didn't believe I knew
my dog. The first day she assured me my dog wasn't aggressive and
could work off-leash I had to assure her I'd known my dog for 5
years and off-leash work wasn't a good idea. Then when my dog did
bark at another dog in class, she proceeded to tell me that if I
didn't take charge of my dog that soon I wouldn't be able to do
anything with her. Dog trainers get a snapshot of our (the clients')
dog's behaviors and some realize that's just a snapshot and not the
whole picture, and some don't. It took me a very long email with a
bigger picture of my dog's history and my journey to help my dog
handle difficult situtuations with grace to help that trainer
understand that I did know my dog, and had done a great deal of work
and research to understand my dog better and help her. Sometimes I
wonder if that trainer thought I was lying, at least before I sent her

i'm gonna die or get bored or struggle regardless if i make a million
dollars. sure, i still want that million dollars because it greases
the wheels of life, but i think i'll always remain sad because i want
perfection in everything and it's elusive. i'll always be sad
